I think the point of this beer was to make a hoppy beer that could be aged well and still hold its flavor. Anyone can hop the hell out of a beer and brag about it being super bitter and not for wusses. Is it worth it? Devil Dancer, to me, is what I’d like to get out of a beer like this. Rather than get on DFH about how they didn’t quite ‘hit’ with this brew (since I love DFH, and won’t knock anything they do), let me talk about another ‘extreme’ IPA. Don’t get me wrong, it is a good quality beer. On the palate there was a pineapple, apricot, mango flavor going on with the hops playing second string. Golden monkey is like 10% and 15 bucks for a 6 packs and can 2 6 packs for 30 and have more bang for your buck. There's a case on ebay right now with a starting price of 225 with 70 shipping . It has a HUGE astringency to it, but it drinks so easily. Roughly on par with cost per bottle. Or just get a bottle of Founders Devil Dancer Triple IPA if you want a huge IPA with plenty of hop bitterness. Fresh it is good, but where it really shines is after a few years. Drink 1 right away to know what it tastes like and then age the other 3 (maybe 1, 2 and 3 years). Like Sam Calagonie mentions, split a bottle between you and a friend(s). This aroma was very sweet and floral. ... the higher alcohol content and the more limited release makes for the higher price. The fact that this IPA is not over-the-top hoppy is what impresses me most. This is basically an American Barleywine…and if you cellar it for a few years it definitely will be.
